Stannator of Plympton - Raises ?3461.00
Bowel Cancer West were delighted to accept a cheque for £3,461.00 from Fred Lethbridge which was raised during his year in office as The Stannator of Plympton. Fred was appointed as Stannator in June 2011 for a period of 12 months, and he was able to select a charity of his choice for fund raising during his term of appointment. He is a former bowel cancer patient who received treatment at Derriford, and he therefore decided to choose local charity Bowel Cancer West. Fred and his organising committee have worked tirelessly to fund raise from a whole host of events which were held locally. The events which were held included a number of cake and coffee mornings, a skittles night, a meal and disco at Heaven Restaurant, a model exhibition and numerous raffles throughout the year, including a week running the coffee bar at Harewood House, Plympton.
Mark Coleman, Colorectal Surgeon at Derriford and BCW Director comments “We were delighted that Fred chose Bowel Cancer West, and we are very grateful for the commitment to the fund raising over the last 12 months. On behalf of the charity I take this opportunity to thank him for the effort put into supporting us during this period. The amount raised is a very substantial sum that will assist the commissioning of further research projects into bowel cancer over the forthcoming months. Details of our training and research projects that have been commissioned to date are available on our web site at www.bowelcancerwest.org.uk”
Through the work of Fred Lethbridge the local profile of Bowel Cancer West has increased. Donations have also been received of £400.00 from Plympton Churches through a collection, and a sum of £200.00 was also received through Fine Tubes following a monthly staff collection for Bowel Cancer West which was organised by his son.
