Pre-operative training day for south west nurses

The course will be delivered by ‘Knowledge4Nurses’ under the banner of the national Perioperative Medicine Programme of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and funded by Bowel Cancer West.

A group of expert clinicians will be leading the day, hand-picked to ensure that learning is innovative and interactive so that information can be transferred easily into clinical practice. They will focus mainly on care for patients prior to operation and topics will range from- ‘understanding a blood result’ and ‘anticoagulation’ (to prevent blood clots) as well as a case study relating to a colorectal patient.

Coinciding with bowel cancer awareness month in April, the training will take place on Thursday 27 April at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. The charity is planning to roll out a series of these days across multiple hospitals in the region as well as commit to further research and continue to raise awareness of bowel cancer during the next year
