BCW launches Buddy support group for East Cornwall

A new "buddy" support group is being set up by Bowel Cancer West in East Cornwall

It is the second buddy group launched by the charity, after the successful launch of a similar scheme in Plymouth last year.

The idea of the buddy scheme is to create an informal group for people diagnosed with bowel cancer, their families or friends - or indeed anyone affected in some way by the illness.

The buddy group was the idea of BCW chief officer Jon Gripton

"We kept hearing that despite the excellent work of the NHS in our hospitals and in our communities, people facing a bowel cancer diagnosis - or the treatment, care and aftermath of the illness - were left feeling isolated and with no-one to talk to," he said.

"We decided that we were in the best place to help."

The new East Cornwall group will meet for the first time on Monday July 31 at the Liskeard Tavern at 1030.

Anyone is welcome to attend, but if you would like to talk to someone beforehand please call BCW's Di Sheppard on 07773 261750 or email her: Diane@bowelcancerwest.com

* The next meeting of the Plymouth buddy group is on Wednesday August 2 at Swallows, Blunts Lane, Derriford, Plymouth, PL6 8BE at 1030am and everyone is welcome.
