Family Day at Duloe raises £1400

On Saturday 6th July in the picturesque village of Duloe, BCW director Niki Mellor and her good friend Claire Massey organised a Big Day Out in aid of BCW. The event was held in the cricket pavilion and on the recreation ground which was kindly donated to us free of charge.

There were lots of old fashioned games which included a coconut shy, wellie wanging, tug of war and children’s races.

The public were encouraged to peddle to make themselves a fruit smoothie on a specially adapted bike made by a friend of BCW Denis McCarthy - this proved very popular with everyone and helped to promote exercise and the 5- a- day regime. Both of these can help prevent bowel cancer.

For those who wanted some retail therapy there were stalls selling pre-loved clothes, jewellery, bric-a-brac, cosmetics, scarves and sweets.

If you came to relax while the children played the games then we had a vintage tea room, authentic crepe stall, barbeque and ice creams.

The day was very well attended and raised an amazing £1400 for BCW.

Enormous thanks go to all the willing volunteers who manned all these attractions, many from Derriford hospital and many from my very special group of friends and family.

Huge thanks go to everyone who made this day out one to remember.
