Bristol's first cycle-centric office helps fund campaign to support young patients with bowel cancer

An appeal to raise funds for research to support young people with bowel cancer has received a significant boost with a £3,000 donation from Bristol based Prologue Works and Kennedy Wilson Europe Real Estate Plc.

Local charity Bowel Cancer West (BCW) is aiming to fund research led by medical and engineering professionals to assess the latest and best technology to help increase survival rates of the disease in the south west.

The ‘Young Patients Appeal’ was launched on the 19th August at the Bristol Grand Prix (the UK’s fastest growing city-centre cycling race) for which Bowel Cancer West were appointed the charity partner. The charity is hoping to secure £10,000 to kick-start the project through the support of the public and local businesses.

Charity Founder, Colorectal Surgeon Mark Coleman, said:

“Recent advances in medical technologies can make a big difference to how patients are treated. It’s about recognising what’s out there and making the most of that technology. For example, tests that can help recognise cancer in early stages, such as a breath test, assessing new treatment options through 3D printing or technology to reduce post-operative complication rates and improve post-operative quality of life which is so important for any young person wanting to live a normal life after surgery.”

Prologue Works is currently being transformed into the first cycle-centric office building in Bristol city centre and will provide state-of-the-art cycling facilities and opportunities for the community who work there. Based at 25 Marsh Street, it will launch in November 2017, providing tenants with 3,300 sq ft – 4,300 sq ft floor plates of Grade A office space in the centre of Bristol’s cycling network and the National Cycle Network routes.
