BCW Bike Riders Prepare for the Derriford to Lands End Bike Ride!

On Saturday 6th August a charity 1 day bike ride event will be taking place between Derriford Hospital, Plymouth to Lands End to support Bowel Cancer West.  The route is 110 miles and it will be undertaken in 4 legs stopping at Bodmin, Perranporth and St Ives before finally arriving at Lands End for an overnight stay.

It is expected that 20 riders will be taking part who will be able to cycle the whole route or individual legs to suit all individuals. The cyclists taking part are all from the medical team at Derriford, which include Colorectal Consultant and Bowel Cancer West Director Mark Coleman and many of his colleagues. A support vehicle team is being lead by Niki Mellor a Colorectal Nurse Specialist at Derriford.

The event is one of many which are taking place this year to support Bowel Cancer West in their challenge to raise £100,000 in 2011. The team have already received some support from local companies including Becton Dickinson, Babcock Marine and Nuffield Health, and Certini who have kindly helped out with cycle equipment for the ride.

Bowel Cancer West is a new charity which is established into promoting training and research into Bowel Cancer. Their first research project has already been commissioned and completed, and the fund raising will allow more projects to be supported.
