Bowel Cancer West issue training grant to local nurse

Bowel Cancer West are delighted to have funded Colorectal Nurse Debbie Fuller to attend a training course in Rectal Surgery to support her vital work a theatre nurse at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

Roughly Bowel/Colorectal Cancer 400 patients are treated each year by the Trust so there is high demand for Debbie and her fellow colleagues to ensure every patient is given the best possible support.

Debbie said: “Without the support of BCW, I wouldn’t have been able to attend this course so a huge thank you must go to them and all their supporters who helped raise funds to make this possible. I’ve learnt valuable skills that will help me in my day-to-day role as a theatre nurse, caring for bowel cancer patients to ensure the best possible outcomes following surgery. It really was the best training course I’ve ever been on- so informative and so inclusive of everyone who attended!”

Earlier in the month, Debbie attended the Ta TME Course (Rectal Surgery) at VU University Medical Centre, Amsterdam which teaches medical professionals a form of surgery used where the tumour has presents itself in a more awkward position and aims to enhance the current procedure used, therefore making the overall process for the patient more comfortable and reducing their length of stay in hospital.

With further funding we can pay for more nurses to undergo similar training to maintain the high level of support offered to patients across the south west. Please get in touch to see how you can support us
