Running to Fund Cancer Research

Cornish Times - 22nd February 2012

Liskeard man Clive Shute will be taking part in the London marathon to raise money and awareness for the newly formed charity Bowel Cancer West. Clive credits the found of the charity, Mr Mark Coleman for saving his mothers life five years ago. "Twenty years ago she would not have survived her type of cancer, but due to research, the skills and knowledge were available to save her and more people besides" he said.

Mr Coleman founded Bowel Cancer West in order to further develop this life saving research.  Clive first decided he would run the London marathon when his mother was diagnosed five years ago.  In that time he has gone from being absolute novice who struggled to run a mile, to a member of the East Cornwall Harriers with three Great North Runs under his belt.

He now feels ready to tackle the full 26.2 miles and says that being able to undertake the run for a local charity, during the Olympic year, makes it all the more special for him.
