Record fundraising as Bowel Cancer West voted Sainsburys Plymouth charity partner for a second year

Local charity bowel cancer west was presented with a giant cheque by Sainsbury’s Plymouth totalling £9,056 from funds raised over the past year- the highest amount raised for any charity partner since their scheme began in 2009.

The cheque was appropriately presented outside Derriford Hospital to BCW Chairman and Colorectal Surgeon Mark Coleman alongside Colorectal Nurse Diane Shephard.
To cap off a brilliant year in partnership with Sainsbury’s Plymouth, BCW were also selected by public vote as their charity partner for a second year- proof that bowel cancer is a cause local people feel very strongly about.

BCW Executive Director Ed Sinclair said:

“A huge thank you to Sainsbury’s and their wonderful staff who have helped us raise a phenomenal total. Not only that, but they have given us a brilliant platform to help raise awareness of bowel cancer - helping us reach thousands of their customers with our symptoms and prevention message.”

“Thank you to all who have supported us - in particular to Danny Lee Lewis for his passionate support and to BCW's own Fundraising Manager Claire Massey who have worked tirelessly together to deliver a fantastic partnership.”

Sainsbury’s representative Danny Lee Lewis said:

““All our colleagues and customers at Sainsbury's Plymouth are immensely proud to have fundraised this remarkable amount for our local charity partner. For our customers to vote BCW for a second year is down to our brilliant customers recognizing how engaged our store is with BCW and this wouldn’t have been possible without the brilliant work from Claire and her team"

The funds raised will go a long way in helping the charity fund additional training for Derriford colorectal staff and ensure the charity can continue to raise awareness of a disease that- if caught early- can lead to successful treatment in over 90% of all cases.
