Bowel Cancer West held their first  “Plymouth Professionals Evening" on Thursday 15th November at 6.00-7.30pm pm at the Refectory, Plymouth Gin, Barbican. A full house of 100 guests attended including the Deptuty Lord Mayor and his wife.  This was an excellent opportunity for the Bowel Cancer West team to promote awareness of research work commissioned to date, our recent activities, and a general update to the local business community about the work of the charity.

The evening included a talk from founding Director and Colorectal Surgeon Mark Coleman from Derriford, our researchers Matt Wiggans and Siobhan Creaynor, and James Butterworth who has recently been awared as a Bowel Cancer West Travelling Fellowship. We were delighted that Thom Hunt, former Bowel Cancer patient was the guest speaker who is also known with his resourceful work as one of Hugh Fernley Whittingstalls “Three Hungry Boys” in the recent Channel 4 series.

Some excellent raffle prizes were kindly donated which included the use of a village in the Algarve, a helicopter ride, tickets for 4 people to Exeter Chiefs V Northampton (5th January 2013), £150.00 of Michael Spiers Vouchers, and a number of resturant vouchers for venues in Plymouth.

This was a very successful evening, and Bowel Cancer West were very appreciative of all the support received.
